Top Rank has high hopes for unbeaten featherweight Juan Manuel Lopez. So high, in fact, that his bout will be televised on the undercard of Erik Morales vs. Manny Pacquiao 'The Battle' PPV on Jan. 21. "Juan is a very exciting, young fighter from Puerto Rico. Our whole staff is excited about him and he will be on the live telecast on Jan. 21," said Bob Arum of Top Rank. "Juan is a rugged, physical guy, a tremendous talent," said Bruce Trampler, Top Rank's chief matchmaker. "He combines the best attributes of Felix Trinidad, Wilfredo Gomez and Miguel Cotto. That about covers the bases."
Lopez, 22, is 8-0 with 8 knockouts, has received rave reviews while fighting for Top Rank in Puerto Rico. "I am aggressive fighter, I go forward. I cannot tell you where my power comes from -- maybe it is just something I have inside of me," he said. Lopez, who has six KOs in the first round, represented Puerto Rico in the 2004 Olympic Games. As an amateur, he was a five-time national champion and overall had a record of 126-24.
