Louis beats Dempsey, Tunney, Marciano, and Patterson. He loses to Johnson, Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Holmes, Tyson, Holyfield, Lewis, Wlad, and Vitali, H2H.

But based on resume, career, era, he's the 2nd greatest HW of all-time after Ali in my book.

Wins over Carnera (#2 HW), Levinsky (Top 10 HW), M. Baer, Retzlaff (Top 10 HW), Ettore (Top 10 HW), Braddock (WORLD HW champ), Farr (#2 HW), Mann (#3 HW), Schmeling (#1 HW), Lewis, Galento (Top 10 HW), Pastor (#2 HW), Paychek (Top 10 HW), Burnman (#3 HW), Simon (Top 10 HW), B. Baer (Top 10 HW), Conn (#1 HW), Nova (Top 10 HW), Mauriello (#2 HW), Walcott (#1 HW), and Savold (#2 HW).

Beat every top fighter in his era, with the exception of Marciano and Charles, who Louis lost to when he was well past his prime.

Wins over Walcott, M. Baer, Conn, Carnera, Schmeling, and more HW title defenses than anyone. The only HW resume I'd rank over him is Ali's.

Wins over 19 Top 10 HW's, 20 if you count Max Baer (Baer at the time Louis beat him wasn't in the Top 10 anymore after being upset by Braddock, but would go on to be a Top HW for years to come).

Louis beats the BOLDED. I think he would have been too slow and flat footed for Ali. Foreman was way too big for him. Holmes is #3 all time heavyweight in my eyes. Tyson would have destroyed him without a doubt. Holyfield would have stunk up the joint and clinched and grabbed his way to a UD. Lennox would have out boxed him and used his size and reach advantage. The klitschko brothers too big too strong

But if you look at it Era by Era Joe Louis is the greatest heavyweight in history based on his accomplishments.

Ali, Holmes, Foreman, and Lewis might be the only ones I wouldn't favor Louis over. A lot of good, close to even fights there though.

You'd be better served posting this in the History Section. God only knows what kind of answers you're going to get in NSB when the usual suspects start logging on :cool9:

Theres NO heavyweight with Joe Louis's ability! He has near perfect technique when throwing punches, his balance and arm slots are exactly where they need to be. He has balance and his step to movement is as good as ANY boxers. He has a great chin and his blocking slipping and fainting is also tops amonst the heavies. He had excellant power in either hand and his jab alone paralized men.
If you know what your looking at Joe did everything far above a good average and had NO weaknesses!!! Perfect size for a heavy at 6'2" 200 to 210, had mobility and sat down on his punches as well as Marciano and Dempsey did. Threw combination better than Ali did and had no quit in him as Tyson did.
Look at Joe being beaten by Max, he took shots that no one could take. He actually tried to get up while he was unconscience. Look at what happened when the rematch happened. The most devasting one round in heavy history. Max was NO punk he could box and punch and was "screaming" from kidney shots he was turning in to. He's technically better than anyone he has all the power he needs and he is ready and willing to win and that seperates him too. Ali was the "greatest" promotion and a great athlete and champion but Joe Louis had ALL the attributes and did it all correctly. Ray.
