Where would MMA be if it started when boxing started?

I see boxing as an art (Jazz, ballet ect ect), I see MMA as (Hip Hop, metal). Boxing takes more skill as far as doing more with less (Only using ur hands), MMA is more hardline and ur able to have flaws but be elite. (As long as ur stronger it's more likely ul win)

But we live in a Blood lust society, so I'm wondering where u guys think which sport would be ahead at this point?

Remember, casuals outnumber the hardcore 10 to 1.

These kind of threads irritate the hell out of me because of idiots that hate on a sport and support another without bothering to study history.

If mma started where boxing started then today it would be boxing you morons.

Bare knuckle boxing in the 1800s allowed clinches, locks, elbows, kicks, and rabbit punches. Alot of which would be illegal even by today's mma standards.

And just like mma today....the best fighters at the time boozed and drugged their way to success.

It's funny how people refer to Boxing as class (jazzy) when back then it was looked at as a brutal sport much like what MMA is seen as by most who don't involve themselves in watching it. It took years for Boxing to build its credibility and usher in the stars we talk about today. Also, just as MMA is banned in some states today, the same happened with Boxing. It wasn't like two guys started Boxing and people looked at each other thinking "What Grace!!!". They wanted to see two guys beat the **** out of each other, nothing more or less.

Does MMA have Boxing's overall notoriety? No, but I find it hilarious when the UFC has one or two bad PPVs and all of a sudden it's a "fad" or "running its course" when in fact not one Boxing PPV without the names Cotto, Mayweather, or Pacquiao has barely generated anything over 400K PPV buys. I can't name a Boxing PPV that did over 400K buys without the names above mentioned, yet the fans will still watch...just as MMA fans will still continue to watch.

Give MMA a chance. I mean for christ sake they signed a multi year deal with Fox and are airing live fights on Network TV lol. The last time I physically saw that for Boxing Howard Cosell was still alive. I'm a Boxing fan first, but just find the arguments of both sports so ridiculous.

MMA has been around for a very long time. I might be wrong but I think they competed in mixed combat sports in the first Olympics.

its not brutality of it is the gimmicks really taking guys shoes and throwing them in a cage? hitting a guy while his down unable to fight back that's not really a sport
