He came in at 167 against Mosley, so I expect him to be the same. I think Lopez would come into the ring at 156-160, so there will be a 7-11lb difference.

Anybody know for sure what was Lopez's fight-night weight against Ortiz?

I was actually watching the beginning of the Ortiz-Lopez fight just to see or hear the fight night weigh-in, but they never announced it.

But yes, you are correct, Ortiz is big for a WW.

My only problem with that is that Lopez official weight was 144 @ the scale, if he tries to stay slim against Canelo, it could backfire.

like I said, I listened in the intro and didn't hear either guys fight night weigh.

Lopez definitely has a better chance than people think. He has a good chance at pulling off the upset. I don't think his KO rate shows his true power.

With that said, Canelo took some bombs right on the chin from old man Mosley. And gave bombs and return, with Mosley always having the iron chin of his, took them well. The question is, can Lopez take Canelo's punches like Mosley did for 12 rounds? There's no question that Ortiz hurt Lopez several times. I can't say for sure that Canelo has more power than Ortiz, but I do think Canelo is more mentally stable and has a better chin than Ortiz.

It's gonna be a tough fight for Lopez for sure, but I don't think it's gonna be a walk in the park for Canelo. I think we're in for a war, whether Canelo stops him or not, Lopez will give his all for as long as possible. We don't know if his all would overwhelm Canelo and having him running away in his bike, trying to outbox Lopez after not being able to handle him in trades.

The way fighters balloon up, it's hard to predict what they'll weigh on fight night. Ortiz weighed 161 against Berto and 164 against Mayweather. Lopez weighed 151 against Vargas. The physical difference between Ortiz/Lopez wasn't as tremendous as I thought it would be, maybe 7lb difference max. Ortiz was probably 164 again, so Lopez could've been 158. Fighters usually rehydrate about 10lbs, and I can see Lopez weighing 148 on the scale, and then 156-158 in the ring.

I know the size difference is gonna be about 10-15 lbs on fight night, but Canelo's work rate really bothered me against Gomez(I thought he should've finished him in the 2nd), don't know how good Canelo's chin is because he covers up really well.

This Lopez kid has a very high work rate, which could cause Canelo problem problem if he decides to fight in his usual Peek-a-boo style, especially since Lopez loves going to the body.

I think imma put some money down on this fight.
If you're a gambler, and you obviously are, I don't see a problem with putting a small wager on Lopez at those odds. How "small" you consider a bet to be is an individual thing. I'm a conservative gambler, so I'm thinking along the lines of twenty bucks or so. If the (very) unlikely happens (again), you can walk away with a couple of hundred bucks. If you lose, so what...twenty bucks. I wouldn't bet anything like, say, $100. That would be just throwing money away. Then again, maybe you consider one hundred dollars a "small" wager....

I was waiting for something to come thru, then I was gonna bet. I was gonna go conservative on this fight, nothing more than $50, but $20 would be perfect.

                  164 to 170?
Oh really now? He was low to mid 160's against Berto and Mayweather. I don't know how much he weighed against Lopez.... but 170?

And no, I wouldn't put money on Lopez against Canelo. I put money on him to beat Ortiz, but I won't against Canelo.

I had a similar decision to make the day of the Abril-Rios fight. I expected Brandon to win, but I weighed several factors: one, the odds, of course (5-1); two, Rios was horribly drained (as usual) at the weigh-in; three, I believed Richard to be an underrated "live" dog. So I said, "Why not?" and placed $20 on Abril. Richie wasn't the only one robbed that night.... lol

Just shooting the shit about Lopez-Alvarez, my opinion is that Josesito has just over a snowflake's chance in hell of winning this fight. Who can expect lightning to strike twice with a relatively small overachieving boxer, handpicked to lose (let's face it) against a rising star? The high odds are there for a reason; you're likely to lose. But, like I said, whatever you consider a small wager would be just fine to bet.

One of my favorite lines from any movie is from "Hard Times" with Charles Bronson. James Coburn says to another character, "Well, you know what ol' Mama said about ********. The next best thing to playing and winning is playing and losing...." lol
