Jamaicans are genetic freaks in sprinting. No other countries are going to overtake them anytime soon no matter how much they train. Just like no countries are going to overtake the U.S. in basketball, because it's one of the most popular U.S. sports. But most other disciplines like boxing, wrestling, taekwondo, tennis, volleyball, etc. are still anyone's game if they attract enough talent and train them well.

They should cut the funding to the hopeless US boxing team and give it to the sprinters, they could use some improvement now little Jamaica are sonning them.

The US already won more golds than any other country. If we started taking the Jamaicans' track medals too on top of that it would just be overkill.

It's worth noting that the last American boxer to win an Olympic medal was supposed to be a basketball or football player (D. Wilder), he won it with just 2 years experience.

AIBA is going to get rid of the headgear and of that ridiculous scoring system. That will make things more like the pro style so I expect the US to do better (since we certainly don't suck in the pros.)

Nothing about that suggests with the guys you had, that it would help. In fact some of the guys who were inside fighters may benefit more.

boycott. Truth is the program has been going downhill since 76'.

The truth is the 84' team boasts 2 all-time great fighters on it. How many other teams can make that claim?

There is one problem about the American team that I would like to point out. I only heard of one of them before the Olympics and even that was not good. Other countries treat their amateur fighters like celebrities, while we pay per view what amounts to pugilistic pablum. More promotion and mixed shows, amateur fights before a pro show, to supplement tournament fights and get our amateurs in the public eye, would be better than outright neglect.

This clown is bragging about dominating the 1984 Olympics where 14 Eastern Bloc countries including Soviet Union, Cuba, East Germany didn't compete due to their boycott. If that isn't a perfect microcosm of the American mindset i don't know what is.
