Comments Thread For: AIBA Plan To Sue BBC Over Allegations of Corruption

LONDON - The International Olympic Committee on Saturday steered clear of disputes that have erupted between the boxing federation and major broadcasters NBC and BBC, saying it was up to the two sides in each case to settle their differences.

An International Boxing Association (AIBA) official told various outlets the federation would sue British broadcaster BBC, which is also an Olympic rights holder for the Games, after it rebroadcast a programme that had alleged Azerbaijan was promised two gold medals at the London Olympics in exchange for a $9 million loan.

all of boxing is corrupt. From the grass roots level to AIBA to the Bob Arums and AL Haymons of the world.

How you think certain advisors/promoters fighters get all these "robberies" going there way?

Hell even a PED cheater like Lamont Peterson got a crooked ref to help him beat Khan.

      Its Boxing

They set-up committee and found no evidence to support the BBC's claims.

        Well, that's alright then.

AIBA, has no case. The world saw blatant corruption in the games which confirmed the BBC reports. Azerbaijan initially benefited in the Shimuzu bout. The AIBA had no choice but to reverse the ruling and treat Azerbaijani fighters fairly in the tournament, thanks to the heavy media coverage. They're just upset that they have to give back the $10 million in bribes.

Basically spot on. There was a very clear effort to benefit the Azerbaijani fighters, and Teddy Atlas was making it very well known to the viewing audience. AIBA didn't like this scrutiny, and retaliated against NBC, and now they are retaliating against the BBC for exposing their corruption again.

Why are they so mad if they have nothing to hide?

I think AIBA made a HUGE mistake though. They forgot that the people with the money make the decisions. There have already been numerous calls to have boxing suspended from the olympics until the corruption is dealt with

They just publicly jilted a company that paid $4.2 billion for the rights to broadcast the Olympics.

This is not going to sit well with NBC, and I have a feeling that NBC is going to make strong demands on the IOC that AIBA be placed under suspension or sanctioned in some way.

Why would that crooked ref award Khan with a knockdown that clearly wasn't?
I rewatched that fight recently and it was from sky sports, and even the english commentators aknowledged how much Khan was fouling, and was still fouling after the first deduction.
Cheat or not Khan still only has himself to blame for that loss.

4.2 billion. Did somebody say NBC paid 4.2 billion? With that kind of money they could have their own olympics. I don't think so. Money talks, that kind of money yells in your ear. It couldn't have been that much, that makes a 10 million bribe look like chump change and not worth the effort.
