  • "Winky" Won.…..but Sam Soliman is No Loser!

No one gave Australia’s Sam Soliman a chance against former undisputed 154lb. world champion Ronald "Winky" Wright. No chance of surviving, let alone winning, against one of boxing’s best pound-for-pound fighters; who in his most recent bout had totally dominated future hall of famer Felix Trinidad. [details]

By "No chance of surviving" do you mean to say that most people though winky was gonna KO Sam? I wasn't expecting Winky to KO Sam b/c Winky isn't known for his power. MOst of us just thought that he was just going to put on the same performance he did against Tito, i sure did. But to our surprise sam made a fight out of it which Tito couldn't do. All the credit for sam for taking the opportunity to get his name out their by putting on a show for the fans.

i, like many others, was very impressed with soliman's performance against winky, but i also think that winky won that fight fair and square. just look at the compubox numbers and see the HUGE difference.

i told my parents "this is gonna be a snoozefest" and they left. my dad came downstairs around the 8th or 9th round and said "hows the fight?" to which i replyed "much better than i thought it would be". he didnt stick around to see it, but i enjoyed the fight much more than i thought i would.

The thing I liked about Sam was that he was smiling when he entered the ring, he was smiling between rounds and he was smiling when he left the ring. He showed a ton of heart.
