Comments Thread For: Frank Warren Raves About British Team, Anthony Joshua

Boxing has contributed heartily to Britain’s record medal haul at London 2012 and now its turn to take centre stage. From an initial squad of ten men and women, half have reached the medal stages. Congratulations to flyweight Nicola Adams on becoming the first ever Olympic Champion in women’s boxing, bantamweight Luke Campbell, welterweight Freddie Evans, middleweight Anthony Ogogo and super-heavyweight Anthony Joshua for making the podium.

Team GB’s tally of five medalists is matched only by the Ukraine, and surpassed only by Russia (six medals). Commiserations to team captain Tom Stalker who missed the cut (controversially and by just a solitary point) when he was nudged out by a Mongolian in Wednesday’s quarter final. I thought he’d won.

Told y'all, Warren's salivating already, pen poised, cheque ready. Capitalism, pro turning Joshua and biased decision 1, defiant pariah, Communist Cuba Savon Jr 0.

British boxing as a whole has really come on in the past few years and the reformation of our amateur system is starting to work wonders.

Warren really shouldn't be looking at signing any more Olympians until he's pushed the '08 lot further along. 4 years on and the Beijing Olympic boxers aren't as far as they should be, I feel he's [Warren] neglecting many of his prospects.

Would really like to see the group broken up and the boxers going with a variety of top promoters. It would be great to see any of them go to America to learn their trade and fight under one of the top promotional banners in the world.

Warren want's Joshua but I hope if he signs Anthony, he does more with him than DeGale..

Love reading all these people screaming bias.. It'd be different if it was their home country. Foreign ****s.

Warren was doing a good job with Degale until he lost.

              Joshua is an undeserved medalist

Anyone who watched the Olympics knows that Joshua was soundly beaten by Cuba's Savon (Felix' nephew). It was totally a home-cooked decision and a byproduct of arm-wrangling by AIBA to ensure Joshua wins gold -- which he clearly does not deserve. None of the Super Heavies have much pro potential, save for the one fighter -- Cammarelle -- who apparently has no interest in turning pro.
