Comments Thread For: Olympics Women's Lightweight Finals: Taylor vs.

By Jake Donovan - Katie Taylor looks to cap what has been a domination of the lightweight field in this inaugural season of women's boxing in the Olympics. The fighting pride of Ireland is in pursuit of gold as she faces Sofya Ochigava of Russia. who has been equally as dominant in her two bouts leading to Thursday's finals. [Click Here To Read More]

close fight, trailing after 2 rds, getting a 2 pt lead going into the last rd and holding her nerve in tha last rd to hold on to the 2 pt lead.

Well done Katie. Hopefully the lads in the team can follow suit.

far too close for comfort, i couldnt believe the commontators saying she was handing out a boxing lesson and it was in the bag in the final rd, i thought that last rd (which was scored even) was razor tight and couldve went either way, and with only a 2 pt lead i was nervous she might have let it slip.

Call me a biased bastard, but this fight was hardly a win for the Irish girl. The first two rounds were rather even, the third one was clearly won by miss Taylor due to somewhat wrong tactics of Ochigava but the last stanza was all Ochigava's except for the last punch. I guess 3-3 score isn't legit in this case. Naturally, the fight was a draw though Katie Taylor seemed to have an upper hand in this contest and I wouldn't have been disappointed with Ochigava's loss on the countback. 10-8 score didn't exactly reflect the flow of the fight, which (had it been scored under pro rules) was at leat a draw for Sofya.

Well you may call me a biased bastard but i thought the scoring was pretty fair ill have too rewatch the last round tonight but Taylor landed more then one shot im sure in the last.I dont get the pro comment because if they were fighting under pro rules where its a 10-9 and no headguards and smaller gloves its a totally different fight.Anyway the Russian put up a good fight as always shes the JMM to Katies Pacquaio never really be a clear win

It wasn t a draw Katie was a 1 point winner IMO as i also gave last round to ochigava by a point .......had if it went to a count back katie definetly would have won as she was the more active fighter

Ya on reviewing the fight Ochigava did seem too win the last by a point but i think Katie shoulda won the first 3-2 aswell on my second watch in the first the Russian lands a shot a minute in too take the lead then Katie catches her 20 secs or so later then in the final 5 seconds Katie throws a combination and catches the Russian with two right hands and the Russians seems to catch Taylor with a shot making it 3-2 but in the end i feel Katie did enough. For a long time alot off Irish just though Katie went abroad too these tourneys and blitzed the field all she had too do was show Pete Taylor made a point similar too this these Olympics have thought us just how good she is and how good the girls she is fighting
