    Mundine-Siaca will go on

FORMER world boxing champion Anthony Mundine said last night an eye injury would not delay his February 2 rematch with Puerto Rican Manny Siaca at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre.

Mundine suffered a cut to his left eye in training whilst working with his father and trainer Tony.

Mundine senior, a former middleweight world title contender accidentally clipped his son and the 29-year-old fighter subsequently required three stitches.

Exactly four weeks from the fight, Mundine was confident there would not need to be a postponement although it was believed his management was not quite so certain.

"I don't get cut and my motto in the ring is I don't need a cut man because I don't get cut, man," Mundine told Channel 10.

"We were doing a bit of defensive work and he (dad) came up with an uppercut and caught me just under the eyebrow.

"I have never been cut in a fight, I have never been cut in the gym and my old man cuts me.

    "It's 1-0."

Mundine lost the World Boxing Association (WBA) super middleweight title to Siaca on a split points decision in Sydney last May.

Siaca subsequently lost the title in his first defence against unbeaten Dane Mikkel Kessler.

Mundine created friction in his camp by insisting upon a rematch with Siaca despite being advised against it by his father and manager Khoder Nasser.

He was guaranteed the first crack at Kessler without fighting Siaca but was adamant he wanted to avenge his earlier defeat by the Puerto Rican.

"If I lose that could be the end of my career," Mundine said.

"It's not just to get redemption. I want to beat every man that beats me. Siaca has given me an opportunity to fight him again.

"This time I want to even the score."
