do these other countries have close to a century of domination over a division to back it up?

because we do. our best HW sized athletes stopped boxing and we stopped holding the HW championship.

new zealand never dominated HW boxing, dude. america dominated HW boxing.

    what do you not understand?

They needed headgear and the rules of boxing to be completely re-arranged and the sport transformed into a glorified sparring session in order to finally attain success in olympic boxing.

But that's a good gawdamn question. I wonder why he won't answer it?

i would characterize the B side of this argument as "anti-american"

        or ignorant.

i've said that plenty of times in this thread, and many others like it

        bias or ignorance.

go back through the history of the HW championship and it's held almost exclusively by americans.

Boxing was much bigger in America than virtually every other place hence there domination. If boxing was more popular in other places there would be more talent coming through from those places.

Boxing is less popular in America than it has been in the past hence lack of talent in the HW division right now.

Boxing has AWAYS played second fiddle to a host of other sports in others country's so the same rule aplys.

Lol do you seriously think America is the only country that loses athletes to others sports the only difference is othere nations have always lost athletes to other sports.

          • The soccer analogy fails on a couple levels regarding heavyweights as well. Who would be the heavyweights on the pitch? Centrebacks and some of those huge strikers really. How many of those does a soccer team have, maybe 6 or so guys that are 6'2" or taller (if that even).

An NFL team has like 45 guys that are that size or bigger, an NBA team about 12-15.

When has New Zealand been good at anything BUT rugby? If suddenly other sports just exploded in popularity and your rugby team went to shit, gee maybe you'd be smart enough to put two and two together...

            • Olympic boxing is very important.

Sugar Ray Robinson, Archie Moore, Rocky Marciano, Tommy Hearns, Marvin Hagler, Juan Manuel Marquez, Manny Pacquiao, Bernard Hopkins, Sergio Martinez, Joe Calzaghe, etc. never entered the Olympics.

Henry Armstrong failed to make the 1932 Olympics team.

Mike Tyson failed to make the 1984 Olympics team.

Miguel Cotto got beat by Muhammad Abdullaev and failed in the Olympics... Muhammad won the gold medal.

Audley Harrison, Henry Tillman, Tyrell Biggs, Andrew Maynard, Jerry Page are all gold medal Olympic champions.

You are seriously arguing for the sake or arguing right now. Nobody has said that other countries don't lose athletes as well. But no other country can show an actual decline in the performance of boxing with the rise in popularity of those other sports.

For the record boxing has always been popular in the UK.

he'll find some way to refuse to recognize whatever evidence you present

probably thinks the rugby league is where the best large athletes in the world are, too.

                  • Ali Foreman and Frazier all defeated Eastern Europeans for their Gold medals. So its not like Eastern Europeans ******, theyve always been decent, just not as good as Americans.

Now that Americans have moved on to NFL/NBA, it allows Eastern Euro fighters to be world champions. Its great for everyone.

No what I'm saying is the same can be applied to any nation rendering the excuse worthless my point is valid.

And for the record boxing in the UK has always been behind others more popular sports it's the 9th most popular sport behind even sports like snooker, tennis and Athletics.
