  • The world discovered steroids around the mid 90's too. Especially the Russian amateur program. As documented. Nothing like having some giant heavyweights to celebrate the new millenium.

As others have said you could say the same about rugby and There are some amazing athletes down here in the Australian football League.

      For example.

      Nick Natanui 6"8 230 lbs.

      Adam Goodes 6"7 235lbs

      Lance Frankln 6"6 220lbs

Not only do these guys have speed, skill and strength but have the elite endurance to run up to 12 miles in a 2 hour game and the courage to take NFL type hits without padding. Any of these guys could have been great HWs had they boxed.

did new zealand ever rule the HW division?

did the rise of rugby relate directly to the decline of HW boxing in your country?

because for nearly an entire century, while HW boxing was the most popular sport in america, the states ruled the division
when boxing declined here, and basketball and football rose, we stopped ruling the division

where did our best athletes go?
are tony thompson and chris arreola really the best we've got?

of course they are not. what a ****** question. our best large athletes are playing basketball and football. the men who used to box are playing basketball and football. the decline of HW boxing in the states can be directly correlated with the rise of basketball and football.

it cannot with rugby in new zealand, or any other sport in any other country, because you never so thoroughly dominated HW boxing.

if you dont recognize any of this as factual and not opinion based then you're either ignorant or biased.

      • Is it better to:

        1. to be a good sport and acknowledge there are talented fighters from other countries, or

        2. to make excuses like "the Olympics don't mean anything anyway" or "all the talented American lightweights, welterweights, light welterweights, flyweights, featherweights and light flyweights are in the NBA and NFL, and that's why we didn't win any medals"

I think it's better to be a good sport and give credit where it's due.

HW boxing has made a huge decline while no longer under american rule. do you think HW are better than ever?

there are two great fighters, both named klitschko, who cannot fight eachother, and that's taking away from the division.

nobody is taking credit from the klitschkos, who are great fighters who would contend in any era. outside of those two, and david haye, the division is pedestrian.

            • Boxing is the last resort for many Athletes in the US...unless you grew up around the Sport and your Father had or somebody had you around the sport at a EARLY AGE

but kids just don't make boxing a "FIRST PRIORITY" like say in Cuba and other Countries...also the LAZINESS IN AMERICA, nobody wants to WORK TO GET TO THE TOP, people always looking for short cuts, fast money, fast stardom...well their is really no short cuts in boxing...it is a LONG PROCESS to become a star and make REAL MONEY in boxing and that is not even a Guarantee, you might be a talented fighter but may not see a big payday until your in your 30's

So yes your not going to get the TOP ATHLETES to dedicate themselves to Boxing First...you get guys who will go off and do other sports, THEN MAYBE if those others sports don't work out then they give boxing like Seth Mitchell is currently doing, he jumped into boxing VERY LATE but American Football was his FIRST CHOICE...

But I wouldn't say "AMERICA NOT DOING WELL IN BOXING" just not in Amateurs and Olympics, but in the PROS it is still plenty of Top American Fighters just not Heavyweights of course...

Rugby has always been popular in New Zealand always been much more popular than boxing it's fair to say that if boxing was more popular in New Zealand then some of there big rugby stats would be successful heavyweight boxers.

This discussion is not about basketball.

It's just arrogant, idiotic and baseless to think that the same rules don't aply to other nations if more athletes started boxing young instead of subscribing to other sports then there would be more successful boxers from that particular country it's simple logic.

It's not restricted to a particular sport or nation simple as that.

You don't have an argument basically every country on earth can say there best athletes are participating in sports not named boxing.

It's just absurd to claim it only aplys to the U.S
