  • "The US is not doing as well in boxing because they're all in the NBA & NFL" - agree?

The USA hasn't had a HW champion is several years. And, most of the better HW up-and-comers (Price, Pulev, Glazkov, Fury, etc.) are from the UK or mainland Europe.

It has been said the reason for this is because they are all in the NBA and NFL.

This year, the US won no medals in the Olympic boxing any division from Light Fly (49kg) to Super Heavyweight (+200 kg).

Is this the reason: all the light flyweights, flyweights, bantamweights, lightweights, light welterweights, and welterweights are in the NBA or NFL?

Or is it because the rest of the world is catching up to the US in boxing?

I'm sick of that excuse, anyone can use it, all new zealands heavyweights are playing in the all blacks

There is something badly wrong with the USA amateur system

Other countries are catching up too, I've never see so much young talent in Europe and the uk

Is it me or do all your threads have loaded questioning. That being said winning the olympics in boxing just isn't what is used to be. When we used to send our best and brightest we ALWAYS dominated simple as that. Our best and brightest are going into different ventures with alot more money to be made.

Imagine how bad ass the light flyweights division will be if we didn't lose all the great talent to them being horse jockeys.

The only argument for potential boxers being drafted into the NFL and NBA are Heavyweights/Cruisers etc...
It has no bearing on the lower divisions.

                you know where i stand

of course they're playing basketball and football.

these guys wouldnt even look real to you if they were prospects coming up at HW.

lebron james is 6'8" and is the fastest man in the NBA from one end of the floor to the other. he is 265 lbs and has less than 5% bodyfat

he'd have hundreds of thousands of NSB crusaders telling him to "take the test"

                are they predestined champions?
                no

are they better off than the current lot?
hell yes. tony thompson got TWO shots at wladimir's world championship.

So all the potential US Olympians at light flyweight, flyweight, bantamweight, lightweight, light welterweight and welterweight are all playing basketball or football?
