  • Comments Thread For: Kessler Extends Contract With Sauerland Until 2014

The Viking Warrior has been fighting under the Sauerland promotional banner ever since September 2009 when a TKO victory over mandatory WBA Super-Middleweight Title challenger Gusmyr Perdomo set the stage for the Super Six World Boxing Classic tournament.

I don't know how much time Kessler has left but I could see him winning a title if he stays active. Sauerland probably realizes this.

I don't think Sauerland have done a great job with him. Maybe it was just bad luck, but it seemed strange that he kept having injury problems when set to face Steiglitz but was OK to face Green at 175, almost as if Sauerland were moving him out of the way so as to give Abraham the shot instead.

They didn't manage to arrange a Bute fight or a Froch rematch, which I see as a bad move as those fights were do-able and Kessler would've had a very good chance of beating both.

IMO he should now go to the US to face someone like Pavlik. Very winnable, probably entertaining and on HBO. I think that would put him in a good position for the Ward-Dawson winner, or even the loser. I know he can make good money in Denmark but in terms of career progression I think it's the best choice.

Agreed. Not facing Stieglitz was odd. It might be because of Abraham as you mention, but I reckon financial difficulties due to a new television agreement in Denmark played a part as well.

I don't know if a Bute or Froch fight was doable due to the tight timeframe following the Stieglitz fiasco and facing one of them straight after a long injury related layoff might not have been wise.

As for Pavlik yeah that would be a great fight and I think that's the main objective at this point along with Brian Magee. Fighting Pavlik in the US might be good for US exposure, but he'd definetely leave a lot of money behing in Denmark doing that and I cannot see Pavlik leaving for Europe any time soon.
