Comments Thread For: Russo Sees Nothing Wrong With Tactics Used To Win

Italian heavyweight Clemente Russo was booed on Sunday after reducing his Olympic quarter-final against Cuba's Jose Larduet Gomez into a holding farce in the third round.

The first two rounds were entertaining enough but a packed crowd at the ExCel arena then began chanting 'Cuba, Cuba' as Russo looked like he should have been taking part in one of the wrestling bouts that are also being held at the east London venue.

I mean the ref allowed it, so he did it

Which leads to show the crappy/corrupt reffing when he should have obviously been warned or DQ'd

Winners don't need to explain themselves... if it works, it works.

Hopkins will be proud of him, just imagine it this two ever met, damn so much ring IQ in the same place.

This blame no one but the ref. He allowed it so it happened.

Man this was straight garbage. Dude had a hard wizard on his arm most of the round and was just trying to stall. They need to over turn this or award the Cuban cat 10 points for all the fouls in that 3rd round. Its a shame too because the fight was good up until that point.

As I was saying. The home country winds up with a bunch of gold and brushes all the bad calls that got them there under the table. Not just England, it's the Olympic method. They'll strut their gold, but as we see, the competition was culled. I don't see any other reason for so many bad calls in Olympic history, except to ease the hosting country's path to unpresidented glory. England will win more gold than ever and the fact that they never came close to winning so much gets filed under "improvement". Enjoy your turn, England. Four years from now you will be complaining in Canada while they rake in the gold.

the ref allowed kumar to do the same thing (but less than russo) against spence and aiba saw fit to correct the refs inaction in that fight and deduct points when they reviewed it and overturn the decision. aiba ignored the precedent they set earlier which makes look look even more corrupt/

Wrong thread, wrong day. No Brits got hometown judging today, Campbell almost got robbed, maybe a makeup call for the other 3.

Every lhw decision today was bad, the last 2 just shameful. But like you said, it's not totally random. The hosts usually get the favors, Azerbaijan, and apparently the WSB participants.

A Brit, or fighter from the host nation, doesn't need to be involved in the questionable fight to benefit later. Getting rid of the Cuban always helps.

I like watching Russo...he is so uncoventional and turns a weakness into strengths. He is different from every fighter in the Olympics and I look forward to seeing what he will do next because he is so different and awkwardly powerful.
