Comments Thread For: Arum Says Gesta in Crucial Battle, Title Shot Nears

Bob Arum doesn’t apply unnecessary pressure on Mercito Gesta by making comparisons to his wildly popular countryman.

“The only similarities between Gesta and [Manny] Pacquiao is that they’re both southpaws and both Filipinos,” said Arum, whose company, Top Rank Inc., promotes Pacquiao and Gesta. “But they’re totally different fighters. He doesn’t have the same skill set as Pacquiao. He’s skilled, but it’s a different skill set.”

This is a curse, Arum's Policies, but it's all Gesta has to work with. This is like telling Gesta that after running around the playground, he's ready to climb Mount Everest. He may be able to do it, but he hasn't had the right preperation. Arum should concentrate less on keeping Gesta's zero, get him some meaningful experience, and quit trying to rush him into a title fight.

The "preparation" is always done by the trainer-as far as I know. Is Arum also a trainer.....?

Maybe I used the wrong word. What I'm trying to say is, beating Oscar Cuero doesn't mean Gesta is ready for a title fight or get him ready for it. He had his way with someone he was supposed to beat, remember, no pain no gain. A championship fight is a lot to ask after such weak "preperation".

Gesta should win. Arnett is a come forward pressure fighter and all his wins have been against f level club fighters. A shame if he can't knock him out

Perfect opportunity to prove yourself, when the majority thinks you're not it. If successful, that's when a potential superstar is born.

Gesta At 135 Or 140??? Marquez Was Considering Him At 140... Kind Of...

If Gesta is ready for 140, let's go! Vasquez is nothing. Guerrero went to 47 to beat Aydin, who just had an off night.

Gesta has a million options at 140. Marcos Maidana, Erik Morales, Amir Khan, Juan Manuel Marquez, Robert Guerrero. Vasquez at 135 benefits Bob Arum. Fighting at 140 benefits Gesta!!!
