50 cent in process of gaining nevada promoter licensing

Rapper 50 Cent is licensed to promote boxing shows in New York, but not yet in Nevada, where he has applied for a license and plans to eventually promote boxing events under The Money Team banner.

Following the launch of TMT ("The Money Team") Promotions by rapper 50 Cent (aka, Curtis Jackson) ringtv.com has been curious about how exactly someone goes about becoming a promoter. Jackson has obtained a license in New York and has received an application for one in Nevada -- but what exactly does such an application involve?

Although New York State Athletic Commission director Melvina Lathan couldn't be reached, ringtv.com has obtained information regarding Nevada's application process from NSAC executive director, Keith Kizer.

"Basically you're looking for three things," said Kizer. "We're looking at the background of the people involved and their personal history. You're also looking at the financial wherewithal of the company and then you're also looking at the ability of the company to do promotions. In other words, whether they have the business acumen to do promotions."

Jackson and Floyd Mayweather Jr. plan to begin operating TMT Promotions when the fighter is released from his sentence at the Clark County Detention Center on Aug. 3. The new company has already signed Australian IBF featherweight beltholder Billy Dib to a stable that includes super middleweight contender Andre Dirrell and former featherweight titleholder Yuriorkis Gamboa.

Former two-division titleholder, Zab Judah, informed ESPN.com that he met with 50 Cent, and former welterweight beltholder Andre Berto also has reportedly met with him as well.
