Why the hate for Sweet Pea??

I watched Whitaker fighting Chavez and De La Hoya recently, and each time the crowd booed him as he was introduced.

Ive read some peoples comments about his drug use, but why do some hate him so much???

He was an amazing boxer. Cant say ive seen another defensive fughter quite like him.

I doubt very much that it had to do with Pete's drug use. But I would say it had much more to do with his grating personality, clowning in the ring, and general disrespect that he showed his opponents at times (especially post fight)...Those are a few things I personally didn't like about him anyways.

I don't know. I don't know much about him aside from his drug use.

But this seems like a plausible explanation.

Chavez and Oscar are two of the most popular fighters of this era and have a huge fan base. Pea was never was a fan favorite so had few in the crowd to cheer him on. It wasn't hate, he just wasn't popular.

He always bitched and complained about stuff when he lost and his style didn't excite at all. He was a clown in the ring, too.

                This is interesting.

Ive heard it said that Europeans prefer defensive fighters.

I love them. So from wat ive seen Whitaker was amazing. But each to their own.

His style didn't make for him to be a fan favorite.

The general public, and quite a few boxing fans to boot will never get behind a defensive minded fighter.
