I thought Porter put on a great performance last night against a very legit opponent for the level that he currently fights at.
He threw alot of punches in nice combinations with good power. Nice body shots. In particular, some of the straight rights he threw to the body looked very strong and well placed to me. He seemed to be off balance less than in some other fights I've seen him in. I was also very impressed with how he held it together despite being cut above both eyes. That seems to be a pretty major test for guys trying to make the move from prospect to contender. He didn't seem to be put off by the cuts at all. Granted, it helps that his corner did a good job keeping them under control and that the worst of the 2 cuts was in the last 3rd of the fight. Still, he didn't get all nervous and start ****ing up.
The only criticism I have is that it sure looks like he doesn't defend against the straight or overhand right very well. His chin sure does seem to hang out there in space quite a bit and that might really cost him as he moves up in quality of opposition if he can't get it together.
Props too to Gomez who fought his @ss off but was solidly beaten by the better man last night.
He was a fairly regular poster on here around 2009.I think he held up a piece of paper with "boxingscene" written on it during one of his weigh-in's,too.

yeah man good post, that was the best I've seen him what you said about being off balance less was spot on. I expected him to get more tired than he did and become more off balance, smothering himself, holding, but it never happened. I mean, it got rough in there but there was even less sloppiness and holding than I thought there would be. he's improved just over the last 3 fights even and it will be good to have another fresh face at the weight
