Do Dr's and Referees Stop Fans From Getting a Classic WAR?

I mean when you think of Gatti-Ward I Round 9...The first 1:20 Gatti went down and barely made it back up and didn't answer to at least 10 of Ward's CLEAN SHOTS!..

Then you have Corrales-Castillo I Round 10 where in the first minute Corrales gets dropped 2 times and spit his mouth piece out but he fought back to a victory and Tony Weeks allowed it to continue..

    -----------------------------------------------------------------

Then we get Khan-Garcia, where it showed that Amir Khan was OBVIOUSLY the superior fighter, and got caught and dropped a few times but he was answering the ref correctly, and wanted to continue, yet he called the fight..I believe it was to early and Khan could've made it a war, his heart wasn't gonna let him lay down for Garcia

and I can think of many situations where I believe the ref and/or the Dr, seemed too quick to call it, when there's been some obvious worse situations..I look back at Cotto-Margarito II, although Cotto was nearly pitching a shut out, Margarito was still strong and coming on, and his eye should've been a much bigger factor against Pacquiao, it looked MUCH WORSE..that fight had it gone 12rds could've turned in to a CLASSIC itself and maybe a 3rd fight could've been upon us if Margarito could've brought it closer on the cards.

Maybe it's a difficult situation to be in as a ref and a ringside Dr, but I think some fights can go a little longer as long as a fighter still wants to continue is able to stand on his own two and hold his hands up, you never if 1 shot can turn it all around ala Corrales-Castillo, or even Ortiz-Berto where it looked like the ref was ready to stop it in round 6 and Ortiz dropped Berto with that hook..

    Thoughts?....

Absolutely! I agree with all the examples listed above. There's been allot of fights where I tout it could have gone further & yeah they could of turned out to be classics if not classics they could have at least gone on a bit longer.

Whenever this topic gets brought up I'm always reminded of Pavlik vs Taylor and what could've happened if not for the amazing Steve Smoger.

Gatti Coralles and Castillo were all know as warriors so they got the benifit of the doubt.............Khan is known for having a glass jaw so the ref (although he gave him a long count and should have stopped it after the 1st knock down when he stumbled backwards across the entire damn ring) saved him from being beat unconscious.

Yes, but it's a necessary evil. If you let fights get drawn out too long it ruins the fighters and the reputation of the sport. I think educated fans tend to favor conservative stoppages because they can tell when it's really over. Casual fans tend to think everyone can pull a Rocky Balboa and come back from the brink. I love seeing a guy go till he's literally out, but I know it's not a good thing.

Pavlik was out of it..he was getting tee'd off on and dropped silly, and came back to score the upset and put Taylor to sleep in the corner..CLASSIC!..

Kirkland-Angulo is another example, watch the ref start creeping in and looking closer and closer to jump in and save Kirkland, but he stuck it out and let them continue and the tables got turned and Kirland put Angulo through hell..

Sometimes that's definitely the case, and those examples above are good ones for the most part(I don't think Khan would have recovered). But in general as others have said, it's somewhat a necessary evil because stopping a fight too late might mean someone's life.

I understand that as well, as far as the sports reputation and the fighters health, but I believe there's a fine line between "enough is enough" and "punchers chance"..Paulie Malignaggi's loss against Hatton was perfect, he was too far down on the cards and he didn't have a snowball's chance in hell to turn it around with a single punch, so McGirt knew it was over, no harm and no argument..but strong fighters like Margarito, Khan, even Rafael Marquez-Vazquez II round 6, where the ref just jumped in mid exchange was a little bunk to me, til this day it bothers me when I watch it..

There was no back and forth action, Khan just got whooped. The referee actually gave him more chances than he should have.
