  • Comments Thread For: Escobedo: Adrien Broner ‘Planned’ Coming in Overweight

Vicente Escobedo will meet with Dr. Pearlman Hicks of Long Beach, Calif., Monday afternoon for consultation regarding surgery on a broken nose he sustained Saturday night during his WBO junior lightweight title loss to Adrien Broner.

“They did a few X-Rays in the hospital in Cincinnati, and it was broken, so I’m going to Long Beach today to see exactly what needs to be done,” Escobedo told BoxingScene.com/CSNBayArea.com.

“We’re going to meet Dr. Hicks in Long Beach at 3 o’clock,” said Escobedo’s manager, Rolando Arellano. “He’s one of the best, and I trust his expertise with fighters’ situations, especially because he’s worked closely with the California commission.” [Click Here To Read More]

The weight difference was five pounds at time. That's right. Five pounds. This is a joke.

Broner was unprofessional and classless for what he did, but...

Escobedo crying a bit too much, he could have cancelled the fight if he thought he was at such a disadvantage and nobody would have blamed him. Instead he collected a fat paycheck and got rocked (like he would have probably anyways). You sold out for money (like most of us would have), now accept your decision and take your butt whooping like a man.

I'm going to assume that he's watched the fight and knows that Broner was weighed before the fight and came in lower than the 150s he's claiming so that is a very obvious error in his assessment of the fight. Everything else seemed to be the reason he was not effective in there. His jab was all he had and he often threw it off the back foot.

Outside of that, i figured the complete loss of his purse and the number of expenses heading into the fight, when coupled with an new addition to his family, would make it very hard to walk away when you could get more money in a fight that saw you as a longshot anyway.

Is this guys going to keep crying like a *****?.... Yeah Broner didn't make the weight and so he had every right to call off the fight. But they negotiated and offered him the option to take more money to go through with the fight. He probably got paid more then Broner at the end and hes still crying... 30 year old baby

Posters still don't understand what the difference is between one fighter killing himself to make 130 and the other fighter coming in at a comfortable weight without having to drain himself as much
