Should definitely keep the headgear, especially since the amateur sport is set up for tournaments in which multiple matches could be fought in a matter of days. A bad cut shouldn't prevent a fighter from advancing into the later rounds.
The current point system with the running score was intended to make judging more transparent and I think it has helped in that regard. There's still considerable subjectivity involved so I'd hate to complicate the judging process any further. But I'd like to see any effective power punch get two points a piece.
