Comments Thread For: Mercito Gesta Targets Title at 135, Then a Move to 140
Lightweight contender Mercito Gesta aims to score his 26th career victory on August 3 when the Filipino battles Washington’s Ty Barnett at the Texas Station Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
would finally be nice to see mercito gesta step up and go after one of the top guys in the division before he heads to 140..it does seem like he has a hard time making 135, so moving to 140 might be a good move and there is alot of nice competition at 140.
I want to say Gesta needs to step up his game. I want to say Barrett is no threat. I watched Gesta's last fight and his promoters know what they have. He is no where near world class yet at 135 and 140 is suicidal. He needs to fight a lot of Barretts.

I agree. Gesta does not have world class talent and might never be world class. But Gesta is slowly improving a little every fight. Maybe Top Rank is hoping Gesta will be world class after fighting a lot of Barretts.
Gesta has a lot of technical flaws. He needs a new trainer imo. Gesta needs to keep his hands up, learn head movement and not fight so flat footed. Gesta also has seemed to be experimenting a bit with his style in his last few fights. Still a lot of work ahead for Gesta.
strengths: hand speed, decent athleticism; explosive
Weaknesses: everything else

What happened now? Gesta, you were calling out Miguel Vazquez and now you say you want to go to 140? Talk to your boys and make it happen with Vazquez or you realized that he would give you a boxing lesson?
