    Lou Savaree/ Gerry Cooney.

Cooney was incredible popular and savarese although he had ok skills was barely marketable. Both were white hwy's from nea york. What made the difference....... .....Boxing can be a strange business......... Curiously who was actually the better fighter..............

IMO Cooney was the better fighter overall. While they had similar styles, and Savarese appeared to have more upper body mass and strength, I always thought Cooney was faster, put his punches together better, and had better stamina, even though neither one of them had Holy-like stamina. The sad part is that while Savarese slipped slowly because he constantly trained (probably still does), Cooney quickly spiraled into alcoholism and seldom trained seriously after the Holmes loss, and thus was a shell of his former self only a short time after.

Cooney was a top contender. Gerry could flat out fight.

...If he had pulled out the Holmes fight everything would have been completely different. The guy could flat crack. Instead, we are left with memories of George Foreman sending his mouthpiece into orbit.

Cooney was done when he fought Foreman. The Holmes vs Cooney fight was fantastic.
