Comments Thread For: Amir Khan and David Haye: Striking The Right Balance

When Barry McGuigan was an amateur, the future Boxing Hall Of Fame inductee learned a valuable lesson from his then-coach Danny McEntree, who noticed that the youngster was bringing his elbows up when throwing his shots. Entree reached for the nearest newspaper, rolled it up and placed it under the boxer’s right elbow before getting him to work the left hook.

I agree maybe Roach has took him as far as he can and now Amir needs to change it up abit and work defence! He should go directly to vegas and speak to the money team! And not only that, the elbow thing you are saying was irrelevent to Garcia's left hook. Khan was throwing a lefthook- right upper cut when the shot landed- it was a sameshot left hook, e.g. timing beat khans speed!

Nice article. Watching Haye v Thompson again and you can see how much he has improved. His style requires the athleticism that Haye has but it really is effective. Considering that the UK doesn't produce many 'skilled' boxers Haye is probably the most skilled HW around (and I include Wlad)
