See this is the problem with boxing. Ohhh he was a hundred and 154 not 160. Who gives a ****. its six goddamn pounds. If six pounds keeps you from winning you dont belong in the sport.

Another funny thing is, how was jones able to beat ruiz. he was totally outweighed. Or you could look at the heavyweight division where guys are 30 pounds heavier then there opponent. No one says **** then.

I agree with Rasta on the fact that after his first title defense the WBC wants to start pimping him. It is bull****. Let Taylor make a couple of his own fights, and if it looks like he's dodging No 1 Then mandate it. Otherwise its just insulting.

lol, listen to all this bitching from Taylor fans.. Like someone from another post mentioned, like he really "exhausted" himself in the two Hopkins fights that he really, desperately needs a "tune-up" fight. Give me a break. The truth is, alot of people here don't want to see a deserving fighter like Winky Wright (who's probably the MOST deserving in any weight class right now) win any kind of titles because his style can't be compared to that of a Mike Tyson or a Diego Corrales. It's pathetic.

my reply from earlier today before this "official" post came up:
YES!!!! This is the BEST news i've read in boxing ALL YEAR. The WBC says the fight HAS to happen soon and there's NOTHING HBO or DiBella can do about it! The moral of this story is a fightdate shouldn't be determined by how well it will sell to the public.

The only defense Taylor backers basically have at this point is "the fight won't sell well" or "Taylor had two hard fights already" and fans really don't have any justification to use either. It may be a logical point for Taylor promoters and other getting paid $$$ to back their man, but this is the right decision, the last thing i want to see is Taylor's camp making Wright wait for years and then having another "aging" debate over the results when the fight actually does take place. I'm not saying that's what would of happened, but who knows if it's left in the promoter/manager's hands. The two fights with Hopkins were critical for Taylor's progression, yes, but they were anything but "take you out of the mix until you backstep with a tune-up" type of fights. Honestly, Corrales and Castillo had a ridiculously tough battle in their first fight, and up to when Corrales was KO'ed, the same sort of thing in there second, now, they're about to fight again!! Next month!

Bottomline is, if Taylor's gonna hold all those middleweight titles, HE'S GOING TO EARN THEM!

obviously, you're smoking right now. Just because Wright is more comfortable at 160 than at 154 doesn't mean he was had a problem winning. What else you got?

i would love to see if he can get past sturm first, before moving on to taylor. but, what can i say, i'm not the pres of the wbc.

actually, taylor vs sturm would be nice also. as long as top fighters in the middleweight class keep fighting, i'm cool with it all. still think b-hop should've won that last fight. landed more overall punches, and thrown less. landed more power punches, and thrown less. b-hop was outlanded in jabs though, but he was sharper than jt. i can tell when a fighter is a bit out on his feet, and jermain taylor was indeed. i don't mean like lights out, but still standing, i mean that wasn't close to as sharp as he was earlier in the first few rounds. you can tell by watching a persons eyes and body language. that said, hopkins showed to be even sharper towards the closing of the fight.

perhaps, what it comes down to is boxing politics. jt is going to be around a lot longer than hopkins is.

thats not what i was saying, why do always misunderstand things.

I said that winky was one of the best in the last ten years. I didnt say anything about him not winning. I was actually praising him. The whole 154 to 160 thing was directed at sturmrules, because he said that i was wrong in saying that winky is a great middleweight because he fought at 154. I said that 6 pounds dont matter in a fight. so please read the whole thing before you do this again bro. this is the second time.

now whos smoking. I dont think there is a single poster in here that feels that wright isnt deserving. Who cares he what his style is. Yes it can come across as boring but to me its like poetry in motion watching him fight.

now here i still have to defend my statement, i do think there are a couple of people on this board that either don't know who Wright is or just aren't giving him the respect he deserves (i.e. comments like winky aint got **** on taylor and so forth).. glad you're not either of these.

Just as long as there's that mutual respect between fans backing fighters, it's all good. Whether this fight happens in the next few months, or a year or two from now, i would still agree either way that it will be an interesting fight.
