This thread might be better in the MMA forum, but I'm going to throw it out there anyway. The other day I had a discussion with one of my friends who was a golden glove champion in Texas. We were talking about who would win a fight between a boxer and a wrestler in a street fight. The ideal fight we came up with was Matt Hughes from the UFC and Roy Jones Jr. Both of them are about the same weight and are both highly respected in their sport. So I was just wanting to know everyone's opinion.
Boxer vs. Wrestler

how is the boxer going to throw a punch while on the floor??Originally posted by blichtieMy point for the boxer was that there is no ref and I'm not sure a wrestler could take a shot from a boxer in the kidneys if they were on the floor.Comment

I'm not calling myself a boxer by no means. But I've sparred alot with this guy I was talking about. I've fought a wrestler before and I got a few punches while we were on our feet then he took me down with some wrestling ****. But while he was trying to get me wrapped up with some wrestling move I gave him two shots to the kidneys and one to the head. He moved enough to give me space to get back to my feet while he was still down and then I had the advantage of being on top and just dropping rights on him. So I think as long as you don't get your arms tied up your still in pretty good shape because they're not used to someone punching them to get out of whatever move they're trying.Originally posted by Bobby Peruhow is the boxer going to throw a punch while on the floor??Comment

I dunno what to say to a kid with such a pitiful sig.
Depends on the combatants. I know that Roy is a smart fella who avoids street fights. Seeing how quick he is Mr. 'Rassler better take him down quick or take a count. Roy could outleg him if needed.
Jack Dempsey was a pudgy 46 yrs old when hounded and baited by a heavyweight 'rassler named Cowboy Luttrell. Dempsey was more than a boxer, he was a fighter and a gentleman, and later wrote a primer for self defense that is still used today by many martial arts schools. Luttrell 'rassled back in the day when the sport was legit and was at least 10-15 yrs younger. Dempsey finally had his fill, scheduled the match, and beat the crap out of him and KOed him in 2. Cowboy had to be taken to the hospital all busted up.
It's a moot point. You oughta make your sig a mute point before you meet your Dempsey.Comment

If hes a good wrestler, he wouldnt give u any space or allow u to get on top.Originally posted by blichtieI'm not calling myself a boxer by no means.
