Jean Pascal wins, but not impressively

Anyone else catch Jean Pascal's fight on Saturday?

I know he's still learning the pro trade, but I thought he looked pretty bad against a relatively mediocre opponent. His accuracy was way off, he couldn't counterpunch to save his life, and he keeps his gloves too low but doesn't have the reflexes to survive with this kind of stance, at least not yet.

This wouldn't be all that bad if he didn't strut around like he was the next Roy Jones already. He's got to work less on his cheap-ass showmanship and more on his fight game if he wants to have any kind of success outside the friendly confines of Quebec.

      hm

Damn...a Canadian critical of a hometown fighter? We need mroe Germans like that!

But seriously...I heard Pascal tries to act like Roy. That's reallt dangerous. You just have to be insanely fast and reactive to do that, and smart as well. Mundine couldn't get away with it vs Kessler and Pascal will go the same route if he doesn't improve.

Pascal has talent to burn, and he's still early in his career, but he has to drop the Roy-style showboating before he faces a live opponent or else develop the skills to complement it. The thing is that he drops his hands to his sides like Roy but doesn't have the reflexes to react properly in that stance. His opponents can get a shot or two in and his only response is to throw a wild glancing blow in return. That will be death against a guy with a bit of pop and accuracy.

You compare him to where fellow super middle prospect Bute is at this point in his career and the flaws become even more apparent. I still think he has a chance of pulling it all together and having a decent career, but he better kick the bad habits eventually.
