Saul Alvarez to face Josesito Lopez September 15, CBS to air fight
It seems like Mexican superstar, Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (40-0) has finally found a new opponent for his September 15 date.
BoxingScene.com first broke the news on June 9 when it announced that Lopez was likely to be the new opponent for Alvarez. The next day, on June 10, ESPN's Dan Rafael confirmed the news.
On his ESPN blog, Rafael said 'The deal has been agreed to and contracts have been exchanged, although the paperwork is not yet signed.'
Interestingly enough, the fight will not be aired on either of the two premiere boxing networks of today, Showtime or HBO. Instead, it will be aired on CBS.

It has been quite a rocky road for Alvarez in finding an opponent. Frustrating, not only for him, but also for the fans.
Alvarez was originally scheduled to face Paul Williams (41-2), but after Williams was involved in an unfortunate motorcycle accident that left him paralyzed from the waist down, Alvarez was force to look for a new opponent.
His next option would be James Kirkland (31-0), who would agree to the fight when it was first presented to him. Just days later, Kirkland would price himself out of the match when he asked for too much money. Once again, Golden Boy Promotions, who promote Alvarez, were on the hunt for a new replacement.
Golden Boy then announced what many considered the best match up of them all, when they named Vicious Victor Ortiz (29-4) as they new opponent for Alvarez. When the announcement was made, Ortiz already a scheduled fight for June 23 against Josesito Lopez (30-4). Most expected Ortiz to easily win the fight and move on to face Alvarez. Instead, Golden Boy Promotions made a mistake in announcing the Alvarez fight too early.
Lopez would face Ortiz and pull off one of the biggest boxing upsets in recent years, stopping Ortiz in the 9th round after breaking his jaw.
Alvarez, who was sitting ringside when Ortiz quit in his stool, simply shook his head in disbelief of what had just take place. Once again, with his September 15 date now even closer, he found himself without a dance partner.
With Ortiz now out as an opponent, Golden Boy Promotions would have to either come up with an opponent fairly quick or be forced to cancel their now infamous September 15 date.
There were many rumors of possible opponents. Some said Ersilandy Lara (17-1) while other said Ricardo Mayorga (29-8). Even Miguel Cotto's (37-3) name was mentioned in the mix. In the end, as few sources have now announced, it seems like Golden Boy Promotions came to the conclusion, that the upset victory over Ortiz, earned Josesito Lopez a shot at Alvarez.
In Lopez, Alvarez will face a young and hungry fighter coming off the biggest victory of his career. Having tasted glory after defeating Oritz, Lopez will surely want to taste it again. He will come to brawl as he always does, and Alvarez better be ready. At 27, Lopez, a true brawler from Riverside, California, is a high risk to anybody he faces, just ask Victor Oritz.
Will Lopez be able to pull off another huge upset as he did back in June 23 against Ortiz, or will Alvares, the more skilled fighter, the superstar and surely the favorite, just over power and dominate Lopez ?. -
Pretty awesome if it's on CBS. Big mismatch but at least you know Lopez will come to fight and it will bring some good exposure to the sport. Too bad Chavez/Maravilla dumps all over any potential Canelo fight. If only GB would move the date...Comment

So is this like a "thing" now or was this just to one up Top Rank's PPV?
The fights are probably gonna be on at the same time, and with this one being free it will hurt Top Rank's PPV.
Me personally I will have the Canelo fight on TV and probably stream Chavez-Martinez PPV on my computer, though I might buy it because it's hard to turn down 1080p HD on a huge screen compared to a computer monitorComment

For as long as it lasts huh? Which won't be long. Lopez just got off a war and has about 3 months to get ready for his biggest fight yet. How hard will he be able to train? And if he doesn't train hard enough, his body was soft at 144, imagine how soft it will be if he tries to get 150? One of Canelo's body shot will fold Lopez up real quick.
How about stream Chavez-Martinez and fk the Canelo fight? By tuning into the fight that's "numbers" they get which means the more numbers they get there more bull**** like this that they will keep pulling off.So is this like a "thing" now or was this just to one up Top Rank's PPV?
