I have only been watching boxing for 3-4 years, and in that time i have never heard of there being a weigh in 2 days before the fight?
Seems really strange, has this happened before?

Heavyweights always weigh in 2 days before. They have no weight restrictions so it doesn't really matter when it is.

I've always wondered why HWs weigh in at all.

Really? Most of the big HW fights seem to have had the weigh in 2 days before.
