Heavyweight Boxing far from Dead just in Eastern Europe now

I know a lot of Amateur/Professional Boxing trainers who say the future of the heavies are all training out in Russia, Ukraine, Poland, and Germany and he said there are a handful of good ones from Cuba.

Some interesting stats on Klitschkos for Americans.

Klitschkos last six fights have sold over 285,000 tickets

Klitschko made over $30 million in 2011

Klitschko was the most googled athlete in Russia, Germany, and Poland in 2011.

    Check this article out.

By Jake Donovan - The perception in America is that the heavyweight division is dead. Fortunately for the Klitschko brothers, boxing remains a global sport. While HBO and Showtime have all but given up on what was for more than a century hailed as boxing’s glamour division, premium network EPIX has thrown its support behind the heavyweights and the Klitschko brothers in particular. Tonight’s broadcast marks the fourth time a Klitschko has headlined a card on the network. For the second time in four months, it’s Wladimir Klitschko who takes center stage as he defends his lineal heavyweight crown against Tony Thompson in a rematch to their July ’08 bout. The bout airs live on EPIX’ flagship network, streaming online at EpixHD.com and also on the Jumbotron at Times Square in New York City (Saturday 4:30PM ET/1:30PM PT). The benefit that EPIX viewers enjoy when tuning in to any given broadcast is the backdrop of an actual fight card, as boxing is very much alive and well in Europe.

in that case it is dead

if European fighters dominate the division it must be weak

        traditionally American fighters have dominated

think of how exciting it is to watch the klitchskos fight

I blame a combination of the NFL, NBA, and the cultural emasculation of the American male.

You're just getting out beat by better competition. It's like saying football must be dead because your team sucks at it or American football is dead because the US is the only team that plays - one country for an entire sport - imagine that.

It starts in the amateurs. People say the better athletes are going into the NFL and basketball now but in reality the US still has a steady flow of young healthy heavyweights in the amateurs who are just getting beat by mainly Europeans. Your amateurs don't have success so they're less likely to cross over to the pros. The Iron Curtain fell and rest of the world's standards for boxing improved significantly so boxing is no longer free game for the US.

I wouldn't say Eastern Euros. The best prospects right now aren't from easter europe.
