Strong rumors have begun to swirl that Donovan George will wind up replacing Andre Dirrell to face Adonis Stevenson next month in a super middleweight elimination bout.

Attempts to land an opponent for Stevenson (18-1-1, 15KO) for the Showtime-televise co-feature bout on August 11 at the Bell Centre in Montreal have been grueling to say the least. Several prominent contenders have fallen through, all opting to move in a different direction – or at least as far away as possible from Stevenson.

Dirrell (20-1, 14KO) recently entered the picture, offering the insistence that he accepted the fight and is willing to travel to Canada. The announcement was met with skepticism, considering the odd behavior expressed by the American contender earlier in the year.

What does SMH stand for? I met Dirrell in Tacoma, WA and he seemed like a great guy but what the he can't be his own boss when he hasn't proved anything yet. At least Haymon could have got him on somebodies undercard but at this point I think everyone has branded him as do risky to deal with.

I think it's more of a waste of time to deal with Dirrell.... His only W in the S6 came on his back so I don't see this real dangerous foe that his fans say he is..... Sure he has talent..... But so do a lot of other fighters....

What's getting me about this situation is no signed contract on Dirrells part..... I doubt when it goes to a purse bid he'll agree to terms.... And the whole Bute fiasco

Thanks. As a fan of Dirrell he has been more of a bust to be honest. Maybe he's a late bloomer but Anthony Dirrell is the younger brother who took nearly 2 years off to do battle with cancer and has more fights. Before Anthony's accident he was to be in line for the Interim supermiddle WBC title.

Maybe Anthony is the true sleeper and Andre believes he's to pretty to take punishment. Some of these guys don't have the grit/balls to do what it takes to make it to the top. If Andre passes on Stevenson that will be 2x in 1 year he's passed up on getting himself back on track.

He definitely has talent..... But hes also 28 and time is passing him by..... He has said he wants a title but if he doesn't take fights like these he wont get one..... I think he really messed up that Bute move..... But like we both said he needs to do something before its too late

With all the fanfare Andre has gotten it would be crazy if Anthony finishes with the better career considering all Anthony has been through.....
