Mathebula probably did land more. Donaire was more effective, and clearly won the fight.

    I don't see the problem...

Compubox just needs more guys judging which punches land, and which ones don't.

This pretty much says it all.

Judging is both an art and a science. There are recognized boxing criteria (the science), but there's the subtle application of the criteria (the art).
The sheer number of punches landed, for example, must be taken into consideration, but the perceived effectiveness of a punch must be factored into the judging.

Mathebula was landing more punches, but they had nothing behind them. It was as if Jeff were shadowboxing; his fists were rarely clenched when he landed. On the other hand, Donaire landed powerful shots to both the head and body (especially the head) throughout the fight. Nonito pressed the action the whole way through ("effective aggression").

Regardless of what anyone thinks of the scorecards, Donaire clearly won. There's no dis*****g that, in my opinion.

Let's make it easier. Do away with "Compubox." It's worse than unreliable. Aside from providing statistics that might or might not be vaguely interesting to some folks, it provides no practical advantage.

Here's an example. Fighter "a" lands 50 blows in round 1, while fighter "b" lands 40. In the following round, fighter "b" outlands fighter "a" 30-25. Fighter "a" has now landed more punches (75) than fighter "b" (70). Yet, all things being equal (effectiveness of punches, ring generalship, etc.), the fight is now dead-even.

"Compubox" is a misleading gimmick. We're better off without it.

Donaire's superior defensive movement was on display. Most of the time Mathebula would hit nothing but air when throwing his combinations.

I guess the sheep on here would rather pay attention to compubox as opposed to what actually happened.

Mathebula made it somewhat competitive before he was floored but even up until that point he was missing most of his punches and getting solid counters from Donaire.

From there Mathebula is in survival mode lands nothing of note and gets a beatdown handed to him while he retreats the rest of the evening.

I guess if you feel bad for Mathebula traveling from South Africa to get completely schooled you could give him a sympathy round but dude was completely out of his league.
I also thought Donaire won pretty much every round. I gave Mathebula 2 rounds, but that was it. I dont know which fight the commentators were seeing but to me Mathebula didnt do ANYTHING meaningful in the whole fight.

i feel donaire won comfortably.... but i think nonito gave up a lot of rounds.

he let off the gas and let mathebula pile up the points.... i think nonito was a bit TOO hungry for the big shot. i wanted more jabs, although he said mathebula took his jab away. hmmmm

Stop being a delusional hater. Although compubox favored Mathebula you gotta take into account who suffered more. Mathebula clearly lost the fight and you can't even compare this fight to the one sided victory on the PAC vs brad fight.

And yes Marquez beat PAC in fight 3
