    Clip: Abraham stops Ikeke

Arthur Abraham (19-0, 17 KOs) won the vacant IBF middleweight world title with a fifth round stoppage of Kingsley Ikeke (23-2, 13 KOs) Saturday night at the Arena Leipzig in Leipzig, Germany. Abraham, who was very sharp, was able to hit Ikeke almost at will the entire fight. He finished the 6'4 Ikeke in the fifth with a series of hard shots punctuated by a crushing left hook to prompt a referee's stoppage at 1:36. Ikeke was in the process of collapsing to the deck when referee Samuel Viruet stepped in.

I actually didn't like this stoppage. Yes, Ikeke was hurt, and he did go down, but I don't see any reason why he shouldn't have gotten a count when he went down. It's not like the 7 consecutive bombs Corrales hit Castillo with in their 1st fight. Ikeke was hurt, but he's pretty tall and has no legs. IMO the ref stepped in way too soon and after a glancing blow. Ikeke would have went down, and should have got a count.

Badly enough to wave off the fight?

      I don't think so.

          No, sorry.

These gifs take me about 2 mins to create. That's all the effort I'm willing to put in.

I don't see why it was stopped.
Was the fight an even one up until that point?

I thought it was a good stoppage. It was the uppercut that did it.
It looked like he wouldn't go down and just stand there helplessly.

Abraham was winning the fight with clean punching, but that was the 1st instance he shook Ikeke that badly.

Ikeke was hurt, but it was very quick.

There was maybe two solid power shots before the reff waived it off. Way too soon. If the reff doesn't interject there, Ikeke goes down and gets a count.

Not sure it would have made a difference, but he deserved the benifit of the doubt.

The point is, if that reff used that criteria in the Castill Corrales fight, or Ward Gatti, he would have stopped it at about 50 seperate instances.

Just another reason why I wouldn't send a fighter of mine to Germany.

such a shame that ikeke can be a 6'4 middleweight and fight so badly,
