Comments Thread For: Merchant Wonders if Donaire Can Be Effective Moving Up

On February 19th of last year, Fil-Am star Nonito Donaire delivered one of the year’s more telling knockouts when he vanquished Los Mochis’ Fernando Montiel inside of two rounds at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. The counter-left that first dropped Montiel was both chilling and calculated, the kind of punch that leaves those close to the sport talking for quite some time.

It doesn't appear that he will be nearly as effective as he was in the lower weights that's for sure. He's slower, he's lost some power and,he's become, easier to hit it seems. But none if it will matter until he,fights someone who has a chance at actually beating him. Nishioka will be a huge test tho. But my money is,in either Rigondeaux or Moreno beating him.

There is a reason he sticked to tiny divisions for so long despite the light weight body. He is gonna get cracked pretty soon. Every bantam out there wants to fight him, no reticence whatsoever.

        if Donaire

Looks great this weekend and gets some kd's or Ko's Mongoose then I believe he has the mettle & strength to move up. But if he goes life and death or looks ordinary, he might want to truly think about staying where he's at for awhile and maybe working on his power!

Says the guy with Pirgo in his avi. The guy who said Pirog was gonna whoop Golovkin. Little did you know your hero was gonna back out from a fight again with an "injury" huh?

I have no comment. It seems fishy but Pirog still the best boxer at 160.

Man! stop with Rigodeaux bull crap. Learn the business of Boxing. That's too much risk and too little reward for Donaire. Also, Rigodeaux needs to pay his dues and start building up his resume, instead of pan handling for big fights. freaking broke ass cuban.

i can see donaire winning a world title at 126 one day..not sure about 130 or 135 though, but who knows. donaire says he plans to retire at 135 so maybe he might eventually win a 5th or maybe even 6th world title in 5 or 6 weight divisions.
