Who here supports other boxers of distinct backgrounds? And do you feel the obligation to have to support one of your own nationality simply because?
Supporting others?

A thought I've often had, but never made a tread about.
It seems like the majority of fans are really just fans of fighters from their nationality. I often times find myself utterly appalled by these people.
Personally I like fighters from everywhere. If I see something in a fighter I like, I follow him & become a fan. But mostly I watch boxing whenever it is on, no matter who it is & go out of my way to watch a fight with a fighter I support. -
It comes naturally to those fans that are nationalistic first but alot of them end up becoming true boxing fans not all though. The ignorant ones say racist **** but theyre fly by night fans that leave when theyre man crush fails. I think were starting to see this in these jcc jr fans it will never end. If youre proud of your nation and its fighters and love boxing as well then i feel your even better fan than most. its really a double ended sword.Comment

Definitely I just wonder how many people share the same views? Seems like so much nonsense comes from posters who are blinded by their bias.A thought I've often had, but never made a tread about.

I'm an American. My favorite fighters are:
1. JCC JR.
2. Andre Ward
3. Floyd
4. Manny
5. Cotto
It's only these little countries that feel the need to root for "their" guy. It's like they're ****** too ****** to realize they have nothing nada ZERO to do with a boxer's success.Comment

Anybody who says they dont have a bias or personal preference about certain fighters (doesnt have to b race/nationality) is lying. Background/personalities is a huge part of the sport n a part of what makes it great.
However, when "rooting" for ur countrymen becomes predatory bias n hateful prejudice it takes away from the sport. When u let it blind ur objective measuring of a certain boxers talents, it also hurts the sport.
Boxing is too great & vast of a sport for me not to enjoy its diversity and versatility. The styles, the stories, its why i love it. Out of my 10 current fav boxers to watch 3 r mexican, 2 amerikan 1 arab/ukraine 1 panamanian 2 cuban n 1 is puerto rican. All different, all exhibiting a specific trait about the fighting game i like. But ima Black Cuban male raised mostly in the amerikan south, i consider randall bailey one of my "own" as much as i do a Gamboa. And i will remain unapologetic about itLast edited by MalikKnucklez; 07-05-2012, 06:47 PM.Comment
