Comments Thread For: Klitschko Confession: Thompson Was Not My First Choice

The Klitschko brothers have worked hard to get their hands on nearly every major title in the heavyweight division. Wladimir in particular owns a considerable amount of hardware these days, while also serving as the recognized lineal champion.

Given his position, it should be easy for the younger Klitschko to pick and choose his opponents, belts be damned. That’s in theory, anyway. The truth is that the pickings remain slim in today’s heavyweight division. The longer that the Klitschkos remain at the top, the sooner they will run out fresh challenges.

With most of the division not ready or willing to fight Wlad, for whatever reason, and then the "other" champion of the division Povetkin looking for soft touch paydays, what else is there to do but fight recycled cans he's already beaten? Hold an open fight invitation for the anyone in a 19,000 arena who think they can beat him to enter the ring?

Not much Wlad can do to be honest.

The likes of Fury & Price have said they're not ready. Wlad's in a dammed if he does and dammed if doesn't sort of situation.

If he fights Fury/Price & wins, they were easy targets & they weren't experienced enough. Meaning he's left to rematch dudes he's already beat.

Nobody wants to fight him? A Haye rematch would be better than the voluntary defences against fighters like Mormeck that Wlad chooses. Haye still is the best fighter in the HW division not called Klitschko.

No reason to rematch Haye after the first fight. At least the first Thompson fight was exciting at times. Haye turned that fight into an embarrassment for boxing.

Granted, but after all the bull**** during negotiations in which Haye fought tooth and nail to have absolutely no rematch clauses, you can't really fault Wlad for spitefully denying his call for a rematch.

If he beats Chisora and maybe another name guy, I think Wlad might give him a rematch. The best move for Haye, should he win against Chisora, would be to throw a boatload of money at Povetkin to get him in the ring and take his title.

How can you be the best when you don't come to fight?

Wlad seems to be doing a pretty good job of it.

I'm guessing by next year their is going to be negotiations for a Seth Mitchell fight even though he said he wasn't ready yet for the Klitschkos.
