Comments Thread For: Szpilka Likely Out Until December, Surgery For His Jaw

Polish heavyweight prospect Artur Szpilka (12-0, 9 KOs) is possibly out until December. Last night in Lodz, Szpilka's jaw was broken in two places during his ten round unanimous decision win over tough veteran Jameel McCline (43-12-3, 24 KOs). As reported earlier, Szpilka believes his jaw was broken in the sixth round. The boxer indicates that he will undergo surgery in the coming days.

So what you're saying is; if Mccline had thrown more than 5 punches a round, he could have won?

    LOL.

        Szpilka is not a quitter.

Despite the pain of a broken jaw, he went the whole 10 rounds. In fact, he finished strong in the last round.

Well yea, but Mcline literally threw like.... 10 punches a round and spent the rest of the fight sweating burger grease.

I think he was intimidated by the walking fast food joint

No doubt, but he really doesn't look like a heavyweight either. I'm 6'2 and weigh about 178. Can Szpilka, at 6'4, really not make the 200lbs limit?

It was the first time i've seen him. He seems to have some skills but was too tentative to use them against Mccline due to his size. I'd like to see Szpilka in the mix at cruiser weight.

@paulf Szpilka was fighting in cruiserweight before he went to jail. After he left he weighed about 120kg. Now he's about 105kg and probably duznt mind go to cruiser.

That is the dumbest thing i'v read in a while. So since Williams is a 6'3 who made WW that means that Ken Norton should have been able to make WW? People have different builds. I was 175lbs at age 19 and 195lbs about 6 months later by the time i turned 20, people mature physically.

Szpilka fought at CW when he was a teenager. He just turned 23 and is now a solid 230lbs. He looked small next to Mccline but perhaps you're forgetting how truely big he is at 6'6 275lbs. By comparison Arreola is still a fat *** when he's been around 230. He should think about trying to get to CW before Szpilka should.

1:50 here he is sparring 6'4 250lb Travis Walker.

I hope he 'll not take the same road as Boystov...
