Comments Thread For: Bundrage Sets Focus on Canelo After Blasting Spinks

by Cliff Rold - It took two rounds longer, but 39-year old IBF Jr. Middleweight titlist Cornelius Bundrage (32-4, 19 KO) repeated the result of their first encounter, stopping 34-year old Cory Spinks (39-6, 11 KO) of St. Louis, Missouri, with three knockdowns in the seventh round on Saturday night at the Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, California. Bundrage also scored a knockdown in the first.

Bundrage came in at 153 ½, Spinks at 153 ¾, both just a hair below the division limit of 154 lbs. The referee was Ray Corona.

Spinks was pacing back and forth while Bundrage bounced in the corner as they awaited the opening bell. When the “clang” sounded, it was Spinks sticking the southpaw right jab to try and establish a rhythm, Bundrage waiting for spots to rush. He found his first and landed a hard right. At the halfway mark, Bundrage again found flesh with a hard shot to the belly that ended with him d****d over the back of Spinks. Spinks stood up and held Bundrage aloft for a moment, resisting the urge to slam his man down.

He might have been better off doing so. Inside the final minute, Bundrage landed a crushing right to send Spinks to the floor near a corner. Clearly hurt, Spinks rose and survived the round, absorbing another right Bundrage landed from around his back when the two were tangled near the ropes. [Click Here To Read More]

Bunddrage is just waiting to be cannon fodder for Canelo, Lara, or any elite fighter. He is a low-level contender who is just waiting to hand his title over to someone elite.

Good win for Bundrage but wassup with all the low-blows? I counted 8 before the first warning and even after that K-9 blatantly threw 2 more and the ref acted like he didnt see them. Ray Corona = Russel Mora!!!

Spinks has been past his prime for a long time. He never had a punch and he no longer has his legs under him.

Bundrage is a very good "old" fighter, not a threat to the top fighters around his division, but good enough to trouble almost anyone else.

              Unify, Unify, Unify

K-9 is a Beast! Best opponent for Canelo at this time. We need more unifications in boxing to determine who is the TRUE CHAMPION! The public is confused with all these champions in the same division and it hurts Boxing.

Unification is fine when it's between two guys who have real claim to being the best in class. In this case, neither comes close so it's just a solid clash of top ten guys if it happens. Bundrage is probably more legit since he didn't win his belt from Johnny Drama, but that wouldn't mean much in the ring with Canelo.

won't be surprised if Alvarez fights him
at least it's a credible fight
don't have high expectations for it if it does happen though
regardless, bless Bundrage for stopping Spinks again
hopefully, Spinks will go away now
realistically, K9 can't expect beating Spinks to get him Canelo though

a disgrace to the sport? man stfu.

While K9 has a raw fighting style, very sloppy, the man earned his title unlike many other fighters. K9's road to a title shot was a very long one and it's legit - he beat Cory Spinks who had won the belt fighting Deandre Latimore. K9 defended against Sechew Powell & Spinks, both opponents ranked by the IBF at the time, so again it's legit.

Not sure why anyone would complain about this. It's not like he was given a belt fighting some euro bum welterweight or something.
