GBP have continued to handled the situation terribly...

I said it months ago... They could've avoided the amount of bad publicity they've received if they would've handled the situation similar to how Top Rank handled the Gamboa-Lopez situation (TR never wanted that fight for Lopez). If Schaefer would've said "I think a Canelo-Lara fight is a great fight that will be bigger in the future because we're in the process of raising Lara and Canelo's profile. Hopefully, they unify the titles so that fight can get the attention from the general public that it deserves", it would've given him time to continue developing Alvarez or take him in a different direction.

After this fight in September, Alvarez is on the precipice of fighting a Cotto, then a Mayweather. As long as he's fighting that level of opposition, a Lara fight becomes obsolete.

In the meantime, keep Lara content and his focus on other ventures. Lara's already fought on Showtime, the novelty has worn off, so you introduce a title shot or a fight on HBO a good purse and he'll concentrate on winning those fights. These fights against Hearns and Hernandez do nothing for him at this point.

At this point, all they can do is take the criticism and hope the writers and the public STFU about it when Canelo faces Cotto later in the year. beating ppl up is what's closing the door for him, if they fight and he beat up Molina all 154 pounders will move on to other weights, and you know already that Decubas doesn't want to lose one of his fighters for nothing, Lara is knocking on the door just like Molina, they will fight I'm sure of it and Molina will get his A$$ handed it to him.

Canelo is a belt holder the age doesn't matter here, Billy the kid was younger and had a target on his back, just like Canelo's now, Benitez was a Champ at 17 and fought the best of the best, Tyson, Patterson and others were Champs at 20 and fought the best after that, if the age is a handicap then he should vacate and keep fighting bums and cab drivers from Europe and Tijuana.
