Comments Thread For: Pirog Realizes Golovkin Bout Could Cost The WBO Belt

While the WBA and IBO have sanctioned the middleweight fight between Gennady Golovkin (23-0, 20 KOs) and Dmitry Pirog (20-0, 15 KOs), the WBO has yet to give Pirog their full permission to move forward with the fight. Pirog was recently ordered to fight interim-champion Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam of France.

Belts don't mean much anyway, specially when there's a recognized
Lineal Champion in the same weight class. He made the right choice

It isn't so much about the title, it's about the principal of it all. Every fighter should be allowed to unify when the opportunity presents itself. We complain about the top guys not wanting to fight each other, but these organizations are also part of the problem.

Why can't they just have the winner of Pirog/Golovkin fight N'Jikam?

This is why all this obsession with unification is ******, especially from fans. Its close to impossible. Dealing with one organization is enough trouble as it is.

Don't care if he loses the belt. I look at this fight as the winner deserves a shot at the winner of Jr-Martinez. That's much more meaningful than a ****** strap. Good for Pirog, and I can't wait for this fight.

fcuk the wbo belt...this fight should be on hbo and that all matters to boxing fans. pirog made the right choice and if he beats golovkin he will get the wba belt anyway so just tell wbo to fcuk off if they don't wanna sanction the fight.

Doesn't Gennady have the artificial WBA middle weight title to defend in this fight? So, if Pirog wins... he'd still be a champion.

Or am I missing something with Golovkin's trinket?

the WBA World (Golovkin's belt) and IBO titles are on the line. Sturm has the "Super" version of the title. Winner of Golovkin/Pirog vs. winner of Sturm/Geale makes perfect sense then.
