Abraham Captures IBF Middleweight Title, Danny Williams Upsets Audley Harrison

Arthur Abraham (19-0, 17KOs) stopped Kingsley Ikeke (23-2, 13KOs) in five rounds to capture the won the vacant IBF middleweight title in Leipzig, Germany.

In a very one-sided fight, Abraham began to turn up the heat in the fifth round and pummel Ikeke with power shots. The referee had seen enough and called a halt to the bout as Ikeke appeared to be out on his feet.

In a major upset, Danny Williams (34-4, 28KOs) scored a split decision victory over undefeated 2000 Olympic gold medal winner Audley Harrison (19-1, 14 KOs) at the ExCel Arena in London, England. The scores were 116-113 and 116-113 for Williams, 114-113 for Harrison. Williams is now the commonwealth heavyweight champion.

Williams appeared to land the more effective punches and his aggressive approach was more than enough to persuade two of the three judges to score the fight in his favor.

The round that played the biggest role in the fight was the tenth. After nine rounds of holding back, Williams decided to turn up the heat by turning their match into a fight. Williams landed his signature right hand to floor Harrison late in the round. Harrison was able to escape the round, but the scoring of the round is what cost him the fight.

Harrison tried to rally in the final two rounds, but it was too late - as Williams was well ahead on two of the three scorecards. [details]
