I wouldn't choose one over the other...they're both great legends...with incredible resumes.

Goes without saying both are two of the greatest to ever do it but Ali IMO.

All respect to Ali, Louis wins. 66-3, 1 lose avenged with a 1st round knock out, losing once to Rocky Marciano and 1 lose to Ezzard Charles.... Louis was an amazing boxer, power, speed, heart, and complete respect for the sport. While Ali was great his resume with 5 major loses; gotta go to the Brown Bomber!

When Ali could still fight though, he avenged his losses to Norton and Frazier. How was Ali suppose to avenge his losses to Holmes and Berbick, as he was showing signs of Parkinsons by then.

I got Ali as the best HW ever, with Joe right behind him, based on resume-era-career.

Liston, Patterson, Frazier, Foreman, Norton > Walcott, Schmeling, Conn, M. Baer, Carnera in my opinion.

I voted for Ali. They would not let him fight during almost 4 years of his prime and still I think his record is better than the great Joe Louis.
