Morales to fight March 19th! WBA Possible

    News by ESTO

Erik Morales has returned from his vacation in Argentina. Yesterday in a press conference in Tijuana he anounced that he will fight on the 19th of March in a big fight scheduled for 12 rounds promoted by Top Rank.

Erik said the fight could even be for a world title belt. He will talk to Top Rank about that.

About his fight with Barrera the former World champ said, "I believe that was just a bad night that will not happen again."

Morales also said certain boxing experts have reached him to tell him that he has always been loyal to the WBC but the WBC has not responded in kind. He said they made him see that certain judges and referee's chosen by the WBC "have helped me find my self in the worst nights of my career. Those people have told me I should feel betrayed by the WBC."

Erik said he holds no resentment against Sulaiman and that he doesnt believe what the "experts" told him.

However he did say that he felt maybe it was time to take a different route, and now that he is not a world champ he could fight for the championship of another major belt.

When asked which belt would he like to fight for erik responded, "WBA" (note: 3kBattery is wba champ at 130lbs).

The one thing I feel that seperates Barrera from Morales is Morales' enfatuation with alphabelts. Morales always felt it was important to collect meaningless straps against the likes of Jesus Chavez and Guty Espadas while Barrera beat top fighters like Kennedy McKinney and Prince Naseem Hamed for his reputation. This is why Barrera will be seen as the better fighter, instead of Morales.

I think Morales is and will always be a better fighter.

      Is the WBA champ Yodsadan?

If he was the better fighter, why couldn't he beat Barrera? I think it's funny that the 3 worst days Morales had were against Barerra. IMO, Barrera won all 3 fights.

Looks like "I had a bad night" is becoming the most famous and most convenient excuse of the times!

Cuz after the second fight, the third looked easy. Heck who DIDN'T underestimated Marco in that last fight? The second was only a bad night cuz he lost when he should have won.

The second fight, you mean the one in which Barrera took 5 of the last 6 rounds? Morales doesn't shoot short punches well, Barrera's in-your-face style was simply too much for Morales. Barrera proved he simply was too good for Morales.

Took 5 of the last six rounds is arguable while he ran for the first six. Morales controlled the distance and outpointed Marco. Or at least, that should have been the story.
