In this image, you can see how the bone comes in and pierces the inner cheek and the blood surrounds the teeth. Looks just like Ortiz' mouth last night as far as where the blood was centered.

I would like to see the official medical report ... Because it is very difficult to speak post-broken jaw and Ortiz was yapping away during the interview. Also, surgery is required immediately with a broken jaw, because of the potential damage to the inner ear canal and other structures.

There is no doubt, Ortiz sustained some kind of injury, but I am curious just how severe it was.

Everything they show seems to imply that Ortiz broke his left jaw (they showed a left hook which seemed to be the punch) but the footage on Sky after the fight shows them applying ice to his left jaw. Maybe it was his left jaw that was broken but the whole thing just seems very strange! Thoughts?

Edit: EMbed not working? here link:

If you were to observe the video a little better you would see that pic is in a mirror which makes it look like the left side. There is a video here of the whole fight, if you go to the end of the video you will see Ortiz go to his locker room and go in front of the mirror and that's where this pic came from.

I'd say Ortiz' right jaw was what was destroyed but who knows maybe it was the left and the punch to the right side of his face only exacerbated the existing damage.

i'll take it a step further

i'm 100% sure it was that shot

lopez doesnt have a ton of power. he was hitting ortiz flush with everything he had and he wasn't touching his face up

ortiz chin was way out in the air (he usually tucks it well,) and his mouth was open

having an open mouth is what did the damage.

                      that's a brutal injury

are we 100% sure that's ortiz mouth? sure looks like it. beard, good teeth, everything.

that smile isnt going to be what it used to be when he's all patched up

there will be a serious reconstructive and healing process that he needs to go through

he's 25 years old and he's been stopped thrice, two times by guys who have no business beating a guy who is supposed to be a top fighter (and who commands high dollars.)

unless he wants to assume the roll of top flight opponent he's going to have to rethink his boxing career.

i cant see goldenboy investing the money to rebuild him. they'll continue to match him tough and squeeze some more money / fights out of him.
