Round by Round Coverage; Winky Wright vs. Sam Soliman

Later tonight, Ronald "Winky" Wright (49-3, 25 KOs) returns to action against top contender Sam Soliman (31-7, 12 KOs). The bout has been set as an IBF eliminator for a mandatory title shot next year. The last time the boxing public saw Wright, he dominated Felix Trinidad in one-sided pay-per-view affair in May.

The story of the fight has nothing to do with the fight itself. Most fans are anxious to see how well Wright performs, and then compare his performance to last week's performance of Jermain Taylor. The bout marks the second time that Wright will compete as a middleweight.

His opponent, Sam Soliman, has fought numerous bouts above the middleweight limit. Several of his bouts were held at super middleweight and light heavyweight. He is riding a 19-fight win streak, 7 of those bouts were won by knockout. Soliman has not tasted defeat since 2002. Coincidentally, the last time Wright scored a knockout was in 2002.

Most predict a dominating decision victory for Wright. The biggest win on the resume of Soliman is a 12 round domination of Raymond Joval in 2004. Will Soliman score an upset? Likely not, but Soliman should perform better than most anticipate. Wright knows that he needs to put on the performance of his life in order to fire up the public's demand for a super-fight with Jermain Taylor in 2006. [details]

Thanks for this. We don't get coverage of it here in Australia. Damn shame it is.

I'm hoping Soliman pulls off the upset. If you've ever seen Soliman fight you would know that he is action fighter throwing plenty of punches and even though both fighters don't have much punching power, it should be intersting nonetheless.
