  • John Ruiz Versus Nicolay Valuev: An Analysis

On December 17 2005, in Berlin Germany, John Ruiz will defend his World Boxing Association (WBA) heavyweight championship against Nicolay Valuev of Russia. Given Valuev’s complete lack of experience against top tier fighters, this bout appears to be an easy outing for Ruiz, but this might not be the reality on fight night. [details]

I cannot imagine that his one will be pretty but it does have sort of a trainwreck/carnival act feel to it that makes you wish you could watch it for free in a way

Ruiz should NEVER take ANYBODY lightly.
Jones made him look like a chump and Tua made him look like a coma victim.

Ruiz has had an interesting career.

He has been outclassed by virtually every fighter but stays in the heavyweight hunt because of shoddy disqualifications and such.

if valuev couldnt beat larry donald he wont beat john ruiz.

im glad this article acknowledges ruiz as the clear favorite in this fight, if you would listen to some of the morons on this forum youd think nicolai valuev was the undisputed champ

I agree that this fight could be interesting and maybe even worth paying for but Ruiz should not be the favorite.

You can make the argument that ruiz has not beaten a single fighter since becoming a world champ.

He is not going to get a gift decision over there in Germany. Ruiz is going to lose to the shortest heavyweight fighter in 100 years and the tallest.

Hold and hit will not work against Valuev, and Ruiz DOES NOT have the ability to turn into a slick boxer all of a sudden.

Ruiz doesn not have that much power, if he throws hard enough to attempt to KO Valuev he will quickly tire. So he will back off and look exactly like Larry Donald did, except that he can't play that style as good as Donald.

This fight will look alot like Ruiz vs Golota, except no phony deicision for Ruiz this time.

ruiz main tactic is jabbing and grabbing how is he supposed to hug a 7foot 325lbs beast?
