I like what McCain said and believe that his motives are legitamate and real.

Boxing is still running like the wild west, except for the ones in power are there not because they were the fastest draws with their pistols but rather because they were and are the ones who can write the biggest checks.

Unscrupulous descisions, an even worse rating system and organizations laying outside of the Unitedstates have made a mockery of this once noble and prized sport.

I was always against government involvment in the sport, but with the recent happenings it seems that government involvment is the only way to be sure that anybody who climbs into the ring to wage war will get a fair shake.

It's plain and simple, todays way of doing things is not working. As a matter of fact it is essentially the same as it was when Jonson knocked out Jefferies.

How is it that these promoters make millions upon millions of dollars in each fight yet the participants who put themselves at risk are generally paid little for their participation. How is it that every major professional sport has pension plans set up for its athletes yet our boxers retire as former champions, many being damaged by the sport and taken advantage of by promoters, and they end up living in the alley around the corner in a card board box. Take a look at the history, far too many end up homeless.

One champion that I got to know abit was Tom "Boom Boom" Johnson, a gentle, gracious and kind man who after making a record number of defenses of his featherweight title was forced to live with his brother, all the while showing the effects that the sport will have on those who stay in the professional game for a long time.

Alot of fighters, when leaving the ring, are damaged goods. Their minds having been knocked around in their skulls and damaged by the blows that they have excepted. When they are done in the ring many would not be able to hold a job, not because of laziness but rather because their minds no longer function on adequate levels. With the pension plans set up for professional baseball players, guys who sit out because they've jammed a finger or toe, they know that they will be ok after retirement. Yet the boxers who give their minds, bodies and souls for the sport are left to rot after retirement. It just doesn't make sense.

As things stand right now professional boxing is creeping closer to professional wrestling than it ever has before. With 3 or 4 men running the show with only their best interests at heart.

I now invite the government to intervine and over look the happenings in the sport. As it stands right now I don't see how they could possibly make it any worse than it already is.............Rockin'

I'm not a big fan of government getting involved in everything but they should get involved in Boxing. The promoters and sanctioning bodies are a bunch of snakes and swindlers. Bob Arum is one of the biggest snakes going and only cares about Bob Arum. The fans are held hostage because of this guy. Look at all the fights lately. Top Rank fighter vs Top Rank Fighter. We the fans can't get the fights that we want. I think the government should step in and clean boxing up. It can't get any worse then how it is at the moment. It's truly pathetic.

Sounds like 2 old farts with plenty of power are also boxing fans and disgusted with the sport as much as we are. Honestly, let's be honest folks - if we had the ability to speak aloud and possibly make a difference about the sport we would do it too.

Can't say I disagree, just because I know I'd be spewing out the same **** if I was in McCains political seat.
