Larry Merchant already stated that he doubts the Las Vegas commission will even allow both fights to take place on the same date and he heard the back-up plan was October 6th, which will probably be what happened and I figure the event will get moved to MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Bob Arum is just pissed off at Golden Boy for taking the Mexican Independence date but the thing is both fights are Mexican and Mexican-American. Also it'll allow for a 2-part Chavez-Martinez 24/7 on HBO like they did with Miguel Cotto & Antonio Margarito.

It's all politics at the end of the day in boxing. I'm excited for both fights as the winner of Canelo-Ortiz will have a nice amount of options of who they want to fight after this and so will Chavez-Martinez. Then in November will have Pacman fighting again and probably Mayweather fighting in December.

Chavez-Martinez is a more anticipated fight than the Canelo one so despite Canelo being more popular Chavez will outsell him in this one IMO.

Among Mexican fans, Canelo is not more popular than Chavez Jr.

I do think a Martinez vs Chavez Jr fight would do better then a Canelo vs Ortiz

it is just a much bigger and more meaningful fight overall, plus the few casual fans that may order one of these fights will likely be more Drawn to a HBO PPV Event more so then a Showtime PPV Event
