I don't think they can let a celebrity go into general population. According to the movie Undisputed with Ving Rhames and Wesley Snipes, if something happens to a celebrity while in jail/prison it would bring a lot of negative attention to the facility.

And I don't even think it is the judge's call how he does his time..
